3 big lies even smart, loving humans tell themselves

Hello,

Today, I'm sharing 3 big lies even smart, loving humans tell themselves:

1. “I need to stay safe.”

death

Only people who fear death can be enthralled and controlled.

The whole U.S. culture fears death, hence our rapid slide into a totalitarian surveillance state.

Whatever happened to “Give me liberty or give me death”?

Death is perfectly safe, you’ve already done it like a billion times.

But it’s understandable if it doesn’t feel like that.

Mystery Schools existed throughout the ancient world to wake up remembrance of the soul’s immortality in their initiates.

The Church & State wiped those Mystery Schools out for 2000 years in order to make people forgetful, alienated, and afraid.

And thus easily controlled.

and thus easily controlled

2. “If I was really so great as the people who love me say I am, I’d have everything I want by now.”

Nope.

Desire exists to drive you into divine ecstatic madness… not to soothe your ego.

You’re always totally grand…

… and completely f*cking pathetic, simultaneously.

Forever. Sorry / not sorry.

3. “If only I could achieve XYZ, then I could feel completely good about myself.”

Looking for permission in an external result is a losing game.

Yes, external social value is based on what you can do for others, whether that’s publishing a genius novel or maintaining a perfect butt for others’ viewing pleasure.

But external social value can fluctuate rapidly, it’s like the stock market.

If you only focus on your social value, you’ll have to be miserable because there’s guaranteed to always be a million people who are younger, hotter, more prolific, richer, etc. then you are.

As shaky as it is, we focus on striving for social value because we’re afraid of exile & death.

But the truth is, you’re not valuable for what you can do, like a set of power tools.

a weird living sculpture

You’re valuable for your sheer existence, like a work of art.

You’re a weird living sculpture in God’s on-going f*cked up avant-garde installation theater project.

As such, you’re guaranteed to experience some form of exile and death, as that’s part of the f*cked up theater.

What lies still get sticky in your brain?

best,

Carolyn
P.S. These are exactly the type of infinitely naughty / profound / sexy / sticky / wyrd topics that Laila Bernhardt and I unravel in our brand new podcast, Sleep Over.
