Ego death / Scorpio season / Calcination

Scorpio has somewhat of a modern reputation for being sexy, perhaps due to the intensity that accompanies Scorpio - intensity is sexy…

… But Scorpio is mainly about the mysteries of death and rebirth.

Death is a big, scary topic for us human beings, especially us modern Western human beings. There is an almost-hysterical desire to avoid death and aging in our society (the COVID-19 pandemic has made this quite explicit).

As a culture, we have an intense fear of death. We fear our own death, we fear losing our loved ones - and I’m not trying to trivialize that; obviously grief and loss are incredibly painful, no matter how you shake it...

But we do make it extra-hard for ourselves by having a materialist, secular worldview that generally espouses this idea that there is nothing when we die - just a big, black void. Or the conventional religious view that, if you have not been perfect in life, you’re probably going to be punished in the afterlife.

But today, I want to talk about ego death and how avoiding these death-like sensations hampers us in living our lives.

What has become fascinating to me lately is paying close attention to the defense mechanisms that I use in order to get some sense of control and insulate myself from the ego death sensations of humiliation, rejection, and failure.

There’s an aggressive, almost malicious energy that functions to shield us from these sensations.

I discussed this in-depth in the most recent episode of my audio series, the Alchemical Journey on Ego death / Scorpio season / Calcination.
