a vast, shockingly honest meaning for your life / the Great Work
Hello there,
First, I want to thank you all for the flood of emails and Instagram messages expressing excitement about WEALTH! It feels so good to feel your collective energy ;)
Happy Friday the 13th!
In my last blog I gave you a broad overview of what it takes to create a whole lot of material wealth (money)…
…. through the Hermetic art of generating a context of social meaning for your work.
Today, I want to talk in-depth about the first and most important step in that process: finding a shockingly honest meaning for your life that’s far, far larger than anything you’ve dared to dream up previously.
Before we begin, let’s acknowledge that there’s a lot of ways to generate material wealth and worldly influence, some of them ethical, some of them not.
There’s only one way (that I know of) that’s ethical, and also an endlessly deep, profoundly healing spiritual path.
This is the path of generating deep, honest meaning.
And generating deep, honest meaning starts with you.
Who, as the Caterpillar asked Alice, are you?
What do you mean?
Most of us are in the habit of answering these kinds of questions rather shallowly, defining ourselves by our social names and relationships.
“I’m Carolyn (a name my parents gave me), I’m a business-owner, wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend, etc.”
And this is well and good enough for ordinary purposes.
But for wealth-building and soul-expanding purposes, for fulfilling the Great Work of becoming totally enlightened and completely rich in all realms…
… we’re talking about becoming THE GENERATORS of social context and meaning, not mere cogs in the machine of already-existing social contexts and meaning.
Who are you, what are you, what does your life mean outside and beyond your ordinary social context?
What is your unique purpose for being incarnate?
Most folks have not a nubbin of a notion what their unique purpose for being incarnate might be, and this is fine.
As the ancient Norse recognized, it’s only powerful magicians who strive for and gain the ability to dialogue with their Fylja, their Fate, while still alive.
In other words, magicians are in dialogue with their Meaning.
Your Fate is your Meaning.
You can only ever meet with “external” circumstances / Fates that match the (unconscious, karmic, ancestral) Meaning that you hold for yourself.
So a giant part of magic, as the great wizard Carl Jung knew, involves becoming conscious of the previously-unconscious Meaning that you’ve (karmically, ancestrally, mysteriously) assigned yourself, so you can artistically adjust your Fate.
(“Unless you make your unconscious, conscious, it will rule your life and you will call it Fate.” - Jung.)
And so, only you can decide: are you a powerful magician in a grand cosmic story, making your own Fate, with a unique purpose for your incarnation…
…or are you just a nondescript, hapless node in some social relationships?
I’d advocate that you decide for the first option, as it makes life way more fun and interesting.
Of course, the minute you decide that you’re a powerful magician, you then have to reconcile yourself with this question:
“Well, if I’m so powerful and magical, how come there’s so much in my life and in the world that my ego doesn’t like?”
A very interesting question indeed!
And one that my book, Existential Kink: unmask your shadow and embrace your power, is devoted to helping you answer.
((Pssst: In the WEALTH alchemical community which opens next week, we support leaders in discovering and inhabiting their larger identity and meaning, not only through Existential Kink work but through a variety of super-fun processes, including virtual communication-game parties.))
I’ll give you the quick answer, though: you’re way more than your ego thinks you are.
And as you learn to wield and inhabit this way more, you become more and more lucid in the dream of waking life.
And as you become lucid in the dream of waking life, you gain the extraordinary power of being able to easily shift social contexts and meanings…. And eventually, if you take this lucidity to the max, like the 84 Mahasiddhas of India, you gain the power of being able to transmute matter at a whim.
And while it’s quite tough to get lucid enough to turn rock into liquid or water into wine at the snap of your fingers … (like, fasting for 40 days in the desert kind of tough)...
… it’s relatively easy to get lucid enough to be able to alter social context and meaning at the snap of your fingers, because social context is made out of thought, language, and emotion which are much, much more fluid and rapidly adjustable than crystallized matter.
When you can generate meaning at a large social scale, that’s pure currency, that’s the current of electricity that run through the human world, and once you know how to wield it you can shape it into all sorts of things.
You can shape it into material wealth (as we discussed in the last email), or not.It doesn’t matter.
Once you got this current, this currency, you can’t “run out” of it, you can simply use it to make anything you like.
Consider: Jesus Christ and the Buddha were absolute masters of this art of lucidity.
(And so were, I’m sure, many women — someday I’ll talk at length about Yeshe Tsogyel, but for now, due to three thousand years of patriarchy, these are the 2 ready examples that I can count on the most people recognizing).
Both Jesus Christ and the Buddha were wandering teachers without anything resembling bank accounts… and yet… they weren’t “poor” in any sense of the word.
They didn’t have to struggle for resources. They had mastered their meaning as magicians, they knew their unique purpose for being incarnate, and they could generate whatever they wanted it, when they wanted it.
For example, Jesus not only could multiply loaves and fishes - he also never lacked for all that cash money could buy — he had massively wealthy supporters willing to do anything for him, including sending him courtesans to wash his dirty feet with the fanciest, most expensive perfume.
Why were Jesus and the Buddha so rich?
They certainly weren’t captains of industry. But they had realized their way more and they had full access this current, this currency, this electricity of meaning, and they could shape it at will.
Jesus and the Buddha both completed and refined the Great Work to an extraordinary degree, and this alchemical feat was the source of their boundless wealth, influence, and power.
If it’s your goal in life to go full Christ / Buddha with your bad self, I heartily applaud you.
But even if you have more modest ambitions, even if you might never fulfill the Great Work to the very refined extent that these two great teachers did…
… you can still begin on the Great Work now, and see it transform your life from ordinary dullness and feelings of scarcity and doubt into thrilling beauty and bounty.
So again, I ask:
Who are you?
What do you mean?
Are you a powerful magician, or not?
Love and villainy,

P.S.The WEALTH alchemical community for leaders opens for registration next week.
I’ve decided to make WEALTH exclusive and by application only, so when you go to buy the membership you’ll find that there are 3 application questions on the check-out page. You answer the application questions, and pay for the first month. If your application is declined, you will be politely notified within 7 days of your purchase and refunded.
It's tough to have to turn people away, but it's important to me that the people who make it into WEALTH know that they were hand-selected to join an exclusive coterie.
Qualities that I’m looking for in members: a very high degree of self-awareness and self-responsibility, a great sense of humor, a track record of leadership (at small or large scale).
The cost of the membership is just $99 a month, less than the price of a fancy dinner out for two. And with what you learn in WEALTH, believe me, you will be easily affording many, many more fancy dinners out.
Well, actually, you don’t have to believe me, you can read all the testimonials selected from the thousands of people who have learned how to happily double or triple their income by working with the principles I teach.
(see below for testimonials, and next week see the registration page for many more)
When you join WEALTH you agree to a 12-month commitment in the community. I'm hoping, of course, that you'll stay on with us for much longer as you realize the incredible value of this network of leaders and the mind-blowing quality of support offered.
WEALTH features:
