a life-changing sneak preview of Money work in WEALTH
As I mentioned in my last message, WEALTH opens again for application Monday, September 21st - Monday September 28th.
In November for Scorpio season, we'll be doing altar work with the Money spirit, a face of Hermes.
(WEALTH is all about the Hermetic arts - Hermes is the Greek god of money, magic, and meaning - connected to the Egyptian Thoth, the Norse Odin, to the Roman Mercury, and to Jesus Christ via an identification as "the Logos.")
I figured that all you reading out there in internet land might want a taste of exactly what this is like.
Here, in dark green, is an introduction to Money as a spirit:
Money is a gnarly, nasty, dark, intoxicating, and incredibly powerful being.
Now, he also happens to be a quite glorious, warm, beneficent, and philanthropic being. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t also wildly fucked up, like many of our own dear selves.
The beliefs many of us have inherited about the corrupting power of money, about its profanity, about the impoliteness of discussing it over the dinner table —these aren’t merely tired old pieces of worn-out Depression-era conditioning from our grandpas.
These are obscure intuitions of Money’s true character.
As we will explore throughout this course—that character is dark.
And Money’s uniquely twisted and potent darkness makes it a dangerous thing to mix with pursuits in which purity and clarity are valued highly.
However.
The very cause of spiritual traditions’ guardianship against financial concerns and corruption is precisely the reason that Money is such an unbelievably potent agent for practical magic and ecstatic spiritual awakening.
There have been many secret lineages making deliberate use of toxic elements for the sake of accelerated realization spread throughout geography and time.
It’s well-documented that Siberian shamans ate the toxic psychedelic mushroom Amanita Muscaria to induce divine trance and commune with spirits; medieval Italian witches rode broomsticks coated with salves of Datura and Henbane, poisonous hallucinogens; Buddhist monks engaged in taboo sex to achieve highest enlightenment.
More recently, in fiction, Westworld’s android heroine, Dolores, learned to access and replay her buried traumatic memories from past “lives” in order to gain higher consciousness and escape the pre-programmed “story loops” she was trapped in.
These hardcore spiritual practitioners were all initiates of the Poison Path— intentionally ingesting (i.e., consciously embracing) the poisonous (dark, repulsive, and dangerous) aspects of life in order to transmute them into medicine (gloriously psychedelic rainbow awareness that heals the self and all beings who encounter it).
And Money, as you likely have experienced—through your distaste at advertising, or contempt for ostentation, or a quietly desperate yearning for a bygone era of pre-financial, greed-less communal harmony—is one of the greatest poisons in our culture today.
And, as a result—if we can relate to it skillfully—it will become some of the greatest medicine, and enable some of the most breathtaking, healing magic imaginable.
Riddle of the Sphinx - did I make you or did you make me? by Mark Wagner
Next, what follows below in purple are the instructions for beginning altar work with Money, drawn (along with the preceding intro) from the MONEY course (full course only available in WEALTH)...
...which I co-authored with my dear friend, the very effective coach and angel-investor Dave Burns.
The last time I sent this practice out in an email, DOZENS of people wrote to me saying that this ALONE healed their relationship with Money, allowing them to receive much more of it.
So even if you don't sign up for WEALTH, please do yourself a major favor and commit to following these simple instructions.
Are you committed? I promise it's not hard at all. So - yes?
Excellent. Here we go:
Your first practice is one of buying gifts.
You will go to at least one place of commerce (a crystal shop, an accessories store, or any other place where you might buy gifts for a friend.)
Your gifts could include a small polished piece of rose quartz, a luxury wallet, a stuffed hedgehog, a gold pen… anything you feel called to purchase.
While ordinarily it is a wonderful thing to handcraft gifts yourself, for the purpose of this practice it’s important that you buy these gifts, even if they only cost 20¢ each.
Once you have secured three gifts, you are ready for the second part of your practice: giving gifts.
You won’t be gifting these gifts to just any friend or stranger.
You’ll be gifting them as your first great gesture of friendship, honor, reverence, and reconciliation, to the Spirit of Money himself.
This will be done with care, in ceremony, at an altar.
You may already have an altar set up—if you don’t, you’ll want to set up a very basic one for now. It could simply be a windowsill or table.
Keep it clean, and begin brainstorming ways to make it beautiful.
Though Money does not care much for the idolatry of suffering practiced by those who try to sacrifice joy for profit, he does adore equitable exchange–and so you can be quite sure that the more love and care you give to him, the more generous his blessings will be.

Now: light a candle or incense by or on your altar, or mark the opening of ceremonial space-time with some similar act of reverence.
Arranging your gifts on the floor in front of you, kneel down before your altar.
Close your eyes and visualize the Spirit of Money directly before you—however he appears.
Money is, quite naturally, a Mercurial spirit, which means his form and appearance often changes: shape, species, gender, age, etc.
It’s only important to note how he appears to you at a given moment of communion.
(If you don’t get a particularly strong visual, that’s ok—simply notice the feeling of his personality and energy in front of you.)
Now: place each gift, one by one, on the altar in front of you, with the following intentions:
1. Offer up to the Spirit of Money as gratitude for all his love and gifts throughout your life
Do this verbally. (E.g. “Thank you, Money, for all your love and gifts throughout my life; for the roof over my head, for the lessons and exhilaration of lack and yearning, for inspiring me to be of service to the world, for my clothes, etc., etc.)
2. Offer up gratitude for all the gifts he has yet to give you.
Make these as specific as possible—all the things that you sense you are meant to have or experience in this life through Money, both tangible and intangible. Do this verbally as well.
3. Offer up your simple gifts, with no reason or justification whatsoever, in silence.
Feel the beauty and humor of the fact that you purchased these gifts with Money himself, by exchanging him for them, and that you are now giving them to him— even though, in a way, they came directly from him.
(Ponder: it’s the very same when you give offerings to nature or plant spirits, is it not?)
This shape—of giving back what you’ve been given to its source—will become very important later.
Once all three gifts have been placed on the altar, you can sit in quiet communion with the Spirit of Money for as long as you like.
Ask this question of Money:
"How much money do you want me to receive in the next 3 months?"
Listen for his answer with a quiet mind.
The heart of any deep relationship is the blindingly simple practice of being with. Be with Him.
The first answer that pops into your mind is the "right" one. Don't worry that you're "making it up." All magic is "made up," and it still works. ;)
Next, ask:
"What do you need me to do in order to become fully receptive to this amount of money?"
Again, listen quietly for Money's answer. It may surprise you.
Now, the important thing is that you act on Money's advice. Do what Money needs you to do to open your receptivity.
When you feel complete, give him a warm gesture of loving and respectful goodbye—perhaps a gentle bow—and close your ceremonial space.
Your conscious relationship to the Spirit of Money has now officially begun.
best,
