Tomorrow, September 22nd, is the Autumnal Equinox, a time when light and dark perfectly balance, just before the dark starts to win.
This makes the Equinox a liminal time, an "in-between" time when the veil between our world and the Otherworld thins, and forces start to gather for the Wild Hunt.

What's the Wild Hunt?
In ancient Europe, it was the time when the gods, the ancestors, and the fairies (they all sort of blur together)...
.... ran roughshod through the land of the living, looking for food & honor and making trouble where they didn't get it.
It's the "trick or treat" vibe we now associate with Halloween.
In the circles I run in, Robin Artisson's An Carow Gwyn: Sorcery and the Ancient Fayerie Faith has made a big splash by persuasively arguing that what came to be known as fairy superstition in Christianized Europe...
... is actually a mutated, hidden form of ancestor-worship, and most delightfully, that the King and Queen of the Fayeries (famously styled as Oberon and Titania in Shakespeare's A Midsummer's Night's Dream).....
... happen to be identical with gods known in prior times as the King and Queen of the Dead, called Hades and Persephone in ancient Greece.

This argument from Artisson makes so much sense in light of the fact that "nature spirits," which fayeries have often been taken to be, are also necessarily our ancestors, seeing as human life evolved from the elements (fire, water, air, earth) and from earlier plant and animal forms.
Importantly, the Fayerie are fateful beings, as you can see in the Harry Clarke picture above where fayeries are depicted spinning webs of fate, like the Norns.
The word "fay" literally means "fate." Your relationship with these unseen primordial entities directly affects your fate.
In modern psychological terms, these fateful fayerie ancestors are the personal and archetypal complexes of the Unconscious who populate your night-time dreams and who run your behavior & your opportunities without you knowing it (because they're unconscious, see?).
So I suggest you take this liminal Equinox time to give some food & honor to these fateful, both human and otherwise.
Do this:
When you make your next dinner, make extra.
Make a plate and a cup just for the Fayerie. Fayeries tend to like "special" drinks such as liquor, fresh milk, hot chocolate, etc., though plain water can do in a pinch.
Drop your habitual defenses around your heart and connect with a feeling of raw, vulnerable, genuine sense of gratitude for your existence & creativity.
Go to a beautiful tree or plant.
Leave the plate & cup at the foot of the beautiful tree or plant, praying that the Fayerie might be nourished with the food and with your gratitude.
