how hot, nasty, honest desire will lead to your enlightenment
Today I want to share with you some observations about what desire can really do in magic.
But first, I want to give a shout out to the 1,500 brave souls who've already taken the leap and signed up for INFLUENCE at the exclusive discounted flash sale rate! Yay! And a big hearty thank you to Grandfather Jupiter for providing the expansive oomph to bring us all together.
Without further ado - here's some points about what magic can do with your desire:
1. Evolve your honest motivations
When I started out with magic, I was both broke and stuck in a storm of fearful self-obsession that was spiritually bankrupting me.
My motivations for doing ritual were some combination of "look cool, find a hot Pagan boyfriend, be like Morgan le Fey in Mists of Avalon, have a solid reason to collect incense and crystals, get a nice place to live."
And you know what? Those were perfectly great motivations.
And the more I practiced, the more my motivations morphed. I thought I could trick the Universe into making me cool, and instead the Universe tricked me into massively growing.
(Along the way it gave me plenty of Mists of Avalon type epic moments and hot boyfriends, because the Universe is kind like that.)
Now these days I'm genuinely more interested in liberating myself & all others from suffering than I am in acquiring the most Instagram-able crystal collection on the East Coast.
This a radical change of character that wouldn't have happened if I had sat on my hands trying to look wholesome & holy and not used every occult trick I could to materialize my "base" desires.
2. Provide revelation
It's one thing to get an insight about the nondual nature of reality from a book -- it's a whole other thing to be faced with a synchronicity so stunning that it smacks you on your ass and re-arranges your lived perception of yourself & the world forever.
The further I've gone down this path, the more I've seen that the "results" of magic are actually side-effects of using the language of symbols (the language of the unconscious, which speaks to us in symbols in our nighttime dreams)...
...to speak to the great mysterious Other - (we could call that Other a lot of things - Goddess, God, the Universe, Nature, the Higher Self, etc.) -
... who then speaks back in terms of highly-charged, densely symbolic occurrences in real life (some of which "rhyme" with the conscious intent of a spell I've cast, others which "rhyme" with previously-unconscious intents).
This kind of deep communion is priceless and stunning, and is in itself the real result. Everything else is "icing."
Don't get me wrong though: I fucking love icing. I will eat that stuff up with a spoon.
3. Offer a route to awakening that doesn't diss feminine chaos
Many sources will tell you: if you want to "wake up" spiritually you need to sit on a cushion, stare at a blank wall, focus on your breath - for at least 10 minutes a day, but preferably for hours.
Empty your mind, stay quiet and still, and while you're at it you should probably abstain from meat, sex, parties, intoxicants, and love entanglements. If you do get involved in that stuff, it's a sign of your sad ignorance.
Also: don't have a family, it's too distracting.
Well, I tried that and just couldn't hack it. For a long time I worried that this was a personal failing that would keep me swimming in samsara forever...
... and then I realized - those instructions for waking up are hyper-masculine ones. Isolating, silent, ascetic, and demanding a John Wayne kind of stoicism.
I became more interested in "waking into" my life than waking up out of it.
I wanted to be able to flow fully in the mess of life and kids and work and woods and cooking and blood and parties and music, not float above it.
One of the beautiful things about magic is that it wakes you into your life beautifully (see #1 and #2) without requiring you to be a monk.
Considering all this, I invite you to take a few moments and ask yourself: "If I am being totally honest about my base desires, what do I really want to have in my life?"
If the first desire you come up with has no heat, no electricity, no animal throb to it - I'd gently offer to you that the "desire" you're focusing on is no desire at all, but an abstract ideal.
Ideals are nice, and they can gradually be melded with your electric heat, but alone they can't carry you beyond yourself into the slippery vulva of Sublime Mystery -- only hot, nasty, honest desire does that.
So please keep probing for your genuine desire, the thing that would really turn you on, however silly or selfish it may be.
And when you find it, please give yourself permission to feel the electricity and the heat of that honest desire in your body.
That right there is Shakti, the Goddess, the Anima Mundi, Babalon - that right there is your power to evolve.

Yes it's a course about magic on the internet and that is a quite silly, selfish thing to spend money and time on... but I think you get it in your bones about how that very silly selfishness can lead to sublime growth, and how infinitely worthwhile that sublime growth is.
Plus! the spoon-eating of the icing.
While you’re here…
INFLUENCE is only open for one more day - we’ll get started without you if you don’t register by tomorrow. Doors close on December 18 at midnight EST, so I do suggest you hop on this train before it leaves the station.
