a little reflection about divine love
Here's a little reflection about divine love...
... for those of you who - like me, sometimes struggle to feel connected to it.
Here we go:
"As above, so below; as within, so without"
... is the fundamental principle of action-and-knowledge-by-analogy that underlies all magical worldviews in all cultures, pithily expressed on the Emerald Tablet.
Without accepting this analogy as a premise, there's no way that magic or mysticism "makes sense" since without analogy there's no bridge of knowing between our subjective (occult, inner) experience and the subjective (occult, inner) experience of the world / divinity.
So if you're going to have faith in anything, I suggest putting your faith in this analogy, as it opens the doors to all other kinds of mysteries...
... through a very tangible, accessible means that we all learned about in grade school: analogy.
Analogy means: "This" is like "that" -
--analogy a subtle kind of metaphor that unlike pure metaphor does not assert total identity ("This" IS "that"; "The rose is a star") but instead makes room for difference while still holding everything in relationship of similarity: "The rose is *like* a star."
Ultimately, all pure metaphors are true, but it's very difficult to viscerally perceive that while grounded in our individual identities - meanwhile, analogy is more readily understood.
I was meditating on this recently and recalled that the analogy of the Emerald Tablet goes both ways:
"As below, so above; as without, so within."
So taking my own human self to be "the below" of divinity, I can extrapolate certain things about divinity by analogy:
1) I have a longing for the divine = the divine has a longing for me and all other beings
2) I dearly love my friends and family = the divine dearly loves its relations (which includes me)
3) I feel the pang of compassion when I contemplate the suffering of others = the divine feels pangs of compassion for me when I'm suffering.
.... this hit all hit me very strongly last night as I was reflecting on it, and I felt my heart filling up with love.
It felt like being in a wonderful hall of mirrors - I could perceive very directly how all the love pouring out of me was reflected and multiplied back to me by the mysterious "Other" - divinity, the world, the Universe.
I figured I would share this stream of thought...
.... since perhaps the logical process behind it can be of help to those of you who (like me) are a bit on the heady side and have trouble simply accepting and feeling comforted by (true) cliches like "the Universe loves you!"
best,
Carolyn
P.S. One of the most powerful ways I've received divine love & guidance has been through plant medicine.
Pamela Lyness is a healer I've personally worked with to overcome traumas —
— and she's created program called Interbeing Lineage where you can experience sacred plant medicine healing from your living room.
Through working with Pamela, I've made enormous strides in my ability to be present in my relationships without going into reactive negative trauma quagmires.
That’s why I highly recommend that anyone looking to get out of old negative patterns and stuck emotions join Interbeing Lineage today.
Pam is a GENIUS and you'll be very happy you dove into working with her.
Click here to learn more about Interbeing Lineage & sign up.
This course caps out at 12 people & begins on March 14th — so if you want to secure your spot, you should join ASAP.
If you can't make it work for March, you can also join the April session by clicking here.
