3 life-changing revelations on creating a 7-figure business
In light of the recent launch of my course THRILL, I've been reflecting on some of the biggest revelations I've had while building my 7-figure coaching and teaching business...
...which I essentially did from my bed in my pajamas.
Today, I wanted to share them with you.
1) The path of Exquisite wicked pleasure always wins
Oh, how very very deep was my grind & approval-seeking patriarchal slave programming!
‘Twas a bottomless grotto of ancient unspeakable horrors that would have made H.P. Lovecraft cringe.
For years I REALLY THOUGHT that if I wasn’t stressed and miserable and pounding out pithy content like an insight pornography machine...
... then I wasn’t giving enough to my customers and clients and ANY MINUTE the financial floor would drop out from under me.
PLUS - I thought it would be unethical for me to prioritize my electric erotic evil get-off instead of just sweetly nurturing nurturing nurturing people all the live long day.
Yeeeeeeeeeesh.
Then some stuff blew up in my face...
...and I realized it’s actually super-unethical to OVERLY nurture adults because it can turn into enabling and dependence.
It took awhile, but gradually I surrendered to the truth that following my own evil pleasure in a deeply feline and utterly zero fuck-giving way...
... is always actually the MOST helpful and illuminating thing I can do for the people in my sphere.
So this year, my business brought in 7 figures in sales - just as much as we brought in the previous year - with me working a QUARTER as much!

2) True vulnerability entails being honest about my high worth and standards
I used to think I was only “being vulnerable” whilst crying or empathizing.
I heard about the power of vulnerability in marketing and I was like “awesome, I got this, I cry like all the time.”
Gradually, I learned about a more challenging form of vulnerability— being honest with myself and others about the high value of my work, and about the rigors of showing up to relate to me.
See, for years I was into making it “easy” for people to work with me.
I thought I HAD to do this or else no one would want to seek me out.
Remember the scene in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel where Midge reveals to Joel that for years she’s been unhooking every-other hook of her bra in advance of their rendezvous to make things easier for him when he undresses her?
And he’s like, “What, you thought I’d get bored and give up?”
Well, I was doing that with the whole wide world - bending over backwards to be accessible.
And maybe that’s necessary in the first few months of a service-based business— but after you got a few rad testimonials and some experience- it just isn’t. After awhile it just makes you resentful :)
So, though it felt super-weird at first, I started being vulnerably honest with myself and others that coaching with me is worth tens of thousands of dollars.
I also stopped downplaying the experience of working with me - and instead I shared the fact that many people have told me I’m like a psychedelic medicine journey...
... time with me often evokes nausea, awareness of nondual truths, and uncomfortable realizations.
Now that I’m vulnerably honest that working with me is an underworld medicine journey that requires commitment, investment, and respect...
... I love my clients and students more than ever, they’re getting better results than ever, and I’m richer than ever.
3) To catch and hold attention, you need to own & shamelessly inhabit that which you previously tried to hide
The most magnetic thing you can do as a leader is to hold the paradoxes & imperfections & weirdnesses of your own being with lots of love.
When you do this, others sense that they won’t be judged or looked down on by you, and that they can be free to be their own true selves in your presence.
Ask yourself: what do you fear people will find out about you if you shine your light bright?
The light, we all intuitively know, brings the shadows into sharp relief.
What if you start growing your presence and people find out you’re power-hungry? Vain? Really into magic? Sex-obsessed? (or whatever else?)
What if it was completely, entirely ok to boldly be all these — and many more “taboo” things?
Some taboos concern actual ethical violations (like the taboo against murder) but most taboos consist in arbitrary social shame of very ordinary human foibles and even of very excellent qualities that simply don’t mesh with the mainstream.
Many people live their lives desperately trying to appear like they’ve got it “all together” in order to avoid judgment.
Here’s the thing though: your “taboo” humanity is what’s most fascinating about you. So what if you’re vain?... you’re maybe also generous and hilarious. You can be all that you are and let people see it.
Happily, the days of witch burnings are over in most parts of the world.
