become your own magical potion: solve et coagula
Some of you may have heard me mention already the basic alchemical formula for magic: solve et coagula.
Today, let's talk a bit more about how it works.
Solve means simply: to dissolve. Coagula means to re-combine the dissolved parts into a more potent new configuration.
Here's an example:
When a plant alchemist wants to make a spagyric of roses which will pack a far stronger medicinal punch than a cup of rose petal tea, they first dissolve the rose flowers in alcohol (brandy is a favorite) until the brandy absorbs all the essential oils (the soul of the rose) and the plant alcohols (the spirit of the rose)....
Then the alchemist separates out the soaked flowers from the simple brandy tincture, burn them to mineral salt ash (the earth, or body of the rose)....
... and slowly re-add the mineral salt ash to the simple brandy tincture...
... and, voila! - wind up with a spagyric that has all the unique elements of fresh roses (spirit, soul, and body), re-combined into an evolved, concentrated form.
Obviously fresh roses are marvelous just as they are, as are you, but the process of solve et coagula in creating a rose spagyric:
preserves the power of the roses far beyond their normal life span (creating a kind of immortality)
condenses their healing strength (so that they can pass their magic on to other beings)
elevates their natural qualities (by blending them with the conscious intention and prayer of the human alchemist)
Likewise, when an alchemist of the psyche wants to transform themselves into a magician capable of re-ordering their reality into beauty and bounty...
... they perform solve et coagula operations on their own being.
They dissolve old, stuck patterns in the psyche (through Existential Kink, Deepest Fear Inventory, Hot Seats, Inquiry, etc.) and use the energy liberated in the dissolution to create new, more gorgeous patterns (through Affirmations, Talismanic Magic, Dream Incubation, Visualization, etc.)
This allows them to:
come into felt, vivid contact with their True Self, the part of them that has lived through all past and future incarnations and carries deep wisdom (thus creating a kind of immortality and achieving the prime goal of Western esotericism, Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel, or, in Jungian terms, individuation)
condense their healing strength (so that they can pass their magic on to other beings)
elevate their natural qualities (so that they can become more creative and influential in the world)
