the taboo transmutation that's possible for you

One day in college, wandering around the dusty Philosophy stacks while avoiding my homework, I came across a little yellow tome called The Book On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are by Alan Watts.

This revolutionary volume hit me with a notion I had never previously pondered: that there was far, far more to my being than I consciously understood.

In the years that followed, I gradually discovered first-hand that we all have a divine intelligence within us, accessible via dreams and divination, that sees through linear time and continually corrects our misguided attitudes by supplying us with a bigger, fuller picture.

I figured out that through doing certain simple magical practices, I could expand my ability to receive instruction from this divine intelligence.

And as if that wasn't wonderful enough, these same magical practices that opened me up to my larger Self had the happy side-effect of helping me to dissolve old disempowering belief structures that had made me unconsciously repel money, love, and inspiration.

Once I dissolved those old disempowering beliefs, I reshaped my life rather quickly into the idyll of bounty and connection I'd always wanted.

Overtime, I realized that Alan Watts had really hit the nail on the head with his book title: indeed, the biggest taboo in modern culture doesn't surround sex or drugs or violence -- all those things are rather welcome throughout our mass media ...

... the biggest taboo is waking up to direct knowledge and conversation of your Self's divine immortality, because then you can't be easily controlled via fear of death.

The rule of all tyrannies depends on people being more afraid to die than they are to live in oppression.

Authoritarians have sought to suppress magicians throughout the centuries because magic teaches people how to access direct experience of their own inner divinity, instead of blindly trusting in some Big Daddy of religion or science or politics.

The suppression of magic works by hypnotizing people into thinking that one side of any given polarity is "better."
So for the last 2000 years, the litany of imbalance has gone something like this:

life is better than death

pleasure is better than pain

light is better than dark

conscious is better than unconscious

masculine is better than feminine

science is better than magic

spirit is better than matter

This hypnosis works so well to disempower people because as soon as a person starts grasping at one side of a polarity and fearing the other side...

... that person instantly invokes much more of the disdained polarity into their life as their Self tries to correct the lopsided attitude by compelling the person to deal with what they think is so "terrible."

I want you to read that above sentence again, because it's the fundamental pattern that shapes Fate: whatever you think you want to escape from, you'll get more of; until you realize you're a grand being who doesn't need to escape.

The Self doesn't do this because it's cruel and unfair, it does this because it knows we can handle anything, we can love everything, we don't need to fear or shrink from anything...

....and so without our conscious awareness, the Self (usually called the Shadow, the Devil, or the Adversary when it's acting in this corrective way) will synchronously arrange our lives again and again to give us more of exactly the experience we're running away from until we stop running away from it, forgive it, love it, and cease trying to "get rid of it."

Here's an example: if you really want pleasure and you fear dealing with pain...
.... opiates start to seem like a great idea. Of course, the more you chase those opiates, the more devastating pain you'll wind up with in your life, probably far worse than the initial pain you sought to avoid.

Here's another one: if you really want to live and you fear dying....

... you'll shrink from adventure, thus bringing death upon death to your dreams. "A coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave man dies but one."

And one more: if you really want to be successful and you fear failure...
... then you'll avoid taking risks and failing over and over again, which is exactly what everyone needs to do in order to eventually succeed.

On the other hand, when you learn how to stop rejecting parts of life and start humbly embracing all of it.... your Self begins to synchronously bring you a far fuller experience that I like to call "wealth."

It's not easy to unlearn the habits of fear and rejection -- to do it quickly takes community support, expert guidance, and committed practice.

But it can be done, it is possible to transmute all the lead in your life into gold just by recognizing that you (your Self) brought you that lead because you're so powerful and whole, not because you're powerless and separate.
